Regular project reviews are crucial to keeping any project on track. Standard reports are a prerequisite to such reviews. Standard means any report following the same format, however the form being developed for the specific kind of business and the role therein. The report form is the Dashboard for the PM team to control the ongoing work.
The Dashboard is based on a proper Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), schedule information in a logic order with early and late curves for bulk progress and a network to show the critical path through the schedule. Budget information follows the same WBS plus non-schedule cost items. Thus, the PM team always gets the relevant information on where the project stands and by linking budgetary and progress information by the Earned Value method, future developments can be forecasted.
